We recieved a very official looking letter in the mail yesterday from our daughters school. At first we thought " oh dear what has she done??" But reading the letter brought smiles to our faces.
" Dear Ms ........ and Mr ..........
We are proud to inform you that your child has achieved excellence this year. In recognition of their success we will be awarding them a medal."
Now I knew August had done well at school, especially with her reading. The students were expected to be at level 18 in their reading by the end of year 2 and our little bookworm is already up to level 20 by the end of year one! This from a girl who only knew how to read a few select words at the beginning of the school year. Her progress really blows me away and I am so happy that she has the same love of reading and knowledge that I had in my youth.
In each grade at her school there are 3 medals given out, one for Literacy, one for Numeracy and one for Citizenship. So James and I were eagerly awaiting the ceremony to see which August had been awarded. Secretly I was thinking she would definately be getting the citizenship award as all throughout the year the teacher has commended her on what a caring little girl she is. Always got a hug ready for anyone who is feeling down, concerned for classmates when they are ill, always willing to lend a hand to a friend in need. James was thinking she would be awarded the medal in Numeracy as he was quite good at mathematics at school and knew August had good mathematical knowledge too for her age.
Well our darling firstborn was grinning from ear to ear as she accepted the medal for Literacy as her daddy and I looked on with our hearts bursting with pride!
I found out from her teacher afterwards that August was a candidate for all three medals, in numeracy she was only one point behind the boy who won the medal ( and he is in year 2!)
Then we recieved August's report card and were impressed yet again with her A's and B's and Very High & High marks
Well done to you my little bunny girl, may your willingness to learn go with you through your years and your thirst for knowledge never be quenched. Love ya baby!

Well done August!!! What a great way to start her schooling with a medal in Yr1!! Sounds like you are evry bit the proud parent, and so you should be - what an achievement.
