Hey, that's wild!

There's an upside and a down side to living "semi rurally" on acreage.
The upside: All the wildlife we get to see everyday.

The downside : All the wildlife we get to see everyday.

It's not that bad actually and the kids are fascinated to learn about all the different animals they spot around the property.

There's this gorgeous little guy who lives in our rainforest. He comes out very early every morning for a nibble on the wet dewey grass at the front of our home. Spencer, who is an early riser, will often sit at his window watching the wallaby have breakfast.
The morning after a particularly hairy windy night, I walked outside to hang some washing to find this gorgeous little bat having an all day snooze on the bricks. He looks so soft and fuzzy!

See just how small he is, he takes up just a tiny space on the corner of a normal sized house brick.

It was only a few weeks later after another bout of windy weather that we came out to our dining room to see something hanging down from the rafters out the front. I didn't know what it was so went outside and discovered It was a bloody long snake skin! Close to 3 metres long and in one full piece

Look at the amazing detail in the shed skin
ugh, doesn't it just give you the shivers

The very same day I walked out to my back verandah and low and behold, it must be the weather for snakes. This "little" guy was cruising along the poles. At first we thought this was the snake the skin belonged to.

Nope! This one was in the process of shedding it's skin when I found it.

But wait, there's more!

Yet another carpet snake was lurking on our back verandah only a few nights ago. This one is different yet again to the first two, he's quite a bit smaller.

I suspect he was hanging around because he had plans for dinner!

Oh Ali - don't the snakes freak you out!!
Amazing though for teh kids to get to see it all up close and personal as opposed to having to go to a zoo.

WOW WOW and WOW, I don't think I could sllep at night knowing on of those had been so close. I guess it is just something you get use to. We have a baby frill neck lizard in our backyard at the moment, Ellyse is loving watching him grow.

Gilly, they weren't poisonous, just carpet snakes after the furry wildlife around here. They kind of give me the heebie jeebies but iI'll tell you a little secret- the bats scare me more! LOL
