Thinking about quilting

Friday, 29 June 2007
I was talking to my mil the other day about trying my hand at quilting and was telling her all about the raggedy edge quilt i am starting . Today as I was cleaning up, she popped over and brought me her books on patchwork and quilting that she bought years ago thinking she would use them but then decided it looked too hard. So now I have some lovely books to look through and drool over and perhaps one day in the not so distant future ( when all of my WIP's are finished) I will quilt something! MIL also gave me her quilting rulers and also a book about sewing with overlockers. Perhaps after reading it I won't be so reluctant to use my mum's overlocker that I have here on "permanent" loan.
These are the flannelettes I am using for my first ever raggedy edge quilt. I ummmed and uhhhhed over what would go together well and I really wanted to use the polka dot material and the giraffe and sun material too. So i thought a contrasting green and a winter white would contrast and "set" the it off nicely ( but there again, what do I know hey! lol)

I already had the blue flannelette with zoo
animals on it away in the deep dark depths
of my fabric cupboard, i bought some bright red
to go with it and more of the winter white. I am
going to make Fletcher a simple three colour
raggedy edge quilt. I may do this one first before
I make one for my friend's bub. Just so if I make
any mistakes with it then i will know what to do/
what not to do with the second one.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
lots of warm yummy material. Much less fattening than the peppermint fudge I amde up a couple of days ago and can't stop scoffing! Hmmmmm looking at the picture of it, let me just say that it tastes better than it looks (and it looks like a trail of what a little doggy would leave LOL)
I feel sick now and have a headache from eating too much of it :OOOOOPS:
This satin stars material is on it's way to becoming one side of a taggie mini blanket for my DS 2. He has an annoying habit of playing with my hair while sucking his thumb. It doesn't matter where we are or what we are doing, if my hair is within his reach then he is playing with it, teasing the ends of it so he feels it through his fingers. I thought a satin material would be perfect for him them, the texture of it combined with either fleece or flannelette on the other side would be a nice mix and hopefully will encourage him to stay away from my hair and play with the taggie instead. I also bought this stars material in a girly colour , it has blue, pink and green stars through it.
plus here is some other satins i bought at SL recently. I thought i would make either nice satin skirt each for my girls or some camisoles or slinky nighties for me *Woot Woo* ;)
I don't think I photograph my fabric very well so I tried different ways of laying them out and photographing them. Some Ithrew in the air and whatever way they came down I snapped them LOL others i just folded them back differently. Lame attempt really, but i can't be good at everything LOL
